General Conference, Oct. 2011

As a family we love and look forward to General Conference.  This is a time when the Prophet and his twelve apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints speak and counsel to the entire world.   As always this conference has been uplifting, inspiring and wonderful.  My favorite talks so far have been Sister Dalton's on "How a Father Should Raise his Daughter," and President Monson's talk on learning to recognize, and act upon the promptings of the spirit.

General Conference lasts for two days.  It starts on a Saturday with a morning and an afternoon session and is followed by the same pattern on Sunday.  We reserve this special weekend just to listen to conference.  If you have ever been to Utah during conference it's wild.  Well, it's really a social phenomenon.  For both days of conference cities and towns are very quiet.  We happened to pull into a gas station while traveling through, and conference was being broadcast through loud speakers above us!  I loved it!  Shopping centers have it playing through loud speakers, virtually anywhere you go you hear conference; even outdoors. It's such a neat experience!  It's a little different here in California.  But, we are thankful for the moment to put the world aside and cozy up to conference in the privacy of our own home.

As soon as baby Summer heard the Tabernacle Choir she couldn't turn away.  She was mesmerized by their singing.  They are an angelic choir.  We are blessed to have them sing in every conference.

It's cute when the children are drawn in to the talks.  It always seems to be when the Prophet himself is speaking that the littlest children pay attention.

The children listening with daddy.  (Note: The twisties in Gwyneth's hair are to make it curly.) :)

We love these two times of year when we as a family can listen to our Prophet, Thomas S. Monson and his twelve apostles.  We've also really enjoyed  www.mormon.org!  This is such a fun website.  It has a variety of people who tell about themselves and of course how they are Mormon, the kids love this site.  We have used it for a Family Home Evening.  If you haven't been to this site it's great, go to it. It's very uplifting.  You can also hear the conference talks this blog is referring to by clicking on the link above.  Have Fun!!!!

  1. I felt like I was reliving conference all over again through this post. Sister Dalton's talk was one of my favorites as well. Glad to see you posting more often, I love seeing you and your family's life.

Your kids are angels. Mine did conference bingo for about 30 minutes and then proceeded to make forts and tear apart the house for the rest of the day.
